he art of classical equitation has a long and illustrious history.
Almost from the beginning, the highest elevation of this art
has been associated with the magnificent Iberian horse.
Beautiful, courageous, athletic and sensitive, the ancestors
of today’s Andalusians and Lusitanos inspired great horsemen
of the past, who in turn inspire us with their timeless wisdom.
olly Hansen was born into a family where riding, driving and
the daily care of horses were always part of life. Her experience
and knowledge grew while working with many different breeds
and disciplines, but her passion for the purebred Spanish horse
began when, in 1980, the Andalusian was introduced into her life
while she was in college. In 1981, Holly worked for Sr. Paco Lazo
Diaz, who owned a PRE (Pura Raza Espanola - Pure Spanish Race)
breeding farm in the south of Spain. During the 80’s and 90’s,
Holly traveledthroughout Spain, Portugal, Mexico, and South and
Central America visiting many breeders of PRE and PSL (Pure
Sangue Lusitano) horses, observing the various schooling tech-
niques with Masters of work-in-hand, long reining and the
classical art of high school riding. Each of these art forms, so full
of subtleties, sensitivity and refinement, were always done with
the utmost respect for the horse. Studying with Louis Ramos
Paul in Spain and observing Dr. Guilherme Borba and Louis
Valenca in Portugal, Michel Henriquet in France, all former
students of Mestre Nuno Oliveira, whom were inspirational in
setting the high standards which HH Classical strives to work
toward with each horse and every student. The classical prin-
ciples are honored in all training and pupils can learn the tech-
niques of work-in-hand, correct lunging and long reining.
At HH Classical, the essence of riding is taught. One must have
a great deal of patience, perseverance, discipline and above all,
honesty with your horse and with yourself.
